About Us

Keystone Energy, LLC was founded by John “Jay” P. Cottingham, III and A. Dwight Hood.  See their educational and experience backgrounds below:
John “Jay” P. Cottingham, III

John “Jay” P. Cottingham, III, grew up in South Louisiana and attended high school at St. Pauls in Covington.

In 1984, Jay graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology.  He briefly worked in New Orleans performing oil and gas exploration work in South Louisiana.

In 1988, Jay earned his Master of Science degree in geology from the University of Alabama.  While at Alabama, his thesis work resulted in a kinematic interpretation of the structural evolution of the Citronelle Salt Dome as it related to the timing of oil migration and entrapment within the Citronelle Field in South Alabama.

Jay began his career as a field geophysicist, supervising the acquisition of seismic data in North East Mississippi.  He has spent the last 15 years working with complexly faulted salt structures located in the Mississippi Interior Salt Basin.

Jay particularly enjoys working within older, mature fields looking for unexploited and under produced oil zones.  His work led to the first significant discovery and production from the Washita-Fredericksburg oil zone within the large well established Eucutta Field in South Mississippi.

Jay also found the East Mize Field in Central Mississippi.

Aside from the Mississippi Interior Salt Basin, Jay has extensive experience in the South Louisiana Miocene Trend, the Mesozoic Salt Basins located in North Louisiana and East Texas, the shelf Tuscaloosa, and several Paleozoic Basins located in the mid-continent of the United States, including the Reel Foot Rift and Black Warrior Basin.  Lately, Jay has been involved with several source beds or unconventional reservoir plays in Mississippi and Alabama.

Let Jay put his 25 + years’ experience as an exploration geoscientist to work for you.

A. Dwight Hood

A. Dwight Hood, grew up in the rural Scotland community of South Yazoo County in Central Mississippi.   He graduated high school in Benton, Mississippi in 1972.

In 1976, Dwight graduated from Delta State University eligible for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

In 1980, Dwight graduated from the University of Mississippi Law School with a Juris Doctorate law degree.  In law school he studied real estate law and oil and gas law.

Since graduating law school he has engaged in the private practice of law plus doing oil and gas work.  In the late 1980’s he was able to see the Trimble Field prospect in central Mississippi through from lease take off to the closing sale of the field in excess of $100,000,000.

Dwight has experience doing complicated land related oil and gas work from beginning to end.

Let Dwight put his 25 + years’ of experience to work for you.
